POSITION OVERVIEWUnder direction of the Building Principal the Paraprofessional assists teachers by performing a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well-being. Works individually and in small groups to reinforce instruction, monitor performance and support learning. This position also performs a variety of instructional and classroom management supports as well as related clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff in all classrooms or learning environments.

- Assists in providing a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet the students needs, interests and abilities.
- Demonstrates professionalism, maintain confidentiality, accept constructive feedback and maintain an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
- Supports the classroom teacher in instruction by engaging in planning, following plans outlined by the teacher and working with individual students / small groups.
- Supports the classroom teacher in assessment by monitoring independent work, collecting academic / behavioral data and assisting in keeping accurate / current record of student progress.
- Supports the classroom teacher in organization by performing clerical duties, assisting in gathering / developing instructional materials and maintaining an organized work environment.
- Demonstrates characteristics of an effective team member by engaging in problem solving and exhibiting flexibility and cooperation.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
- Works continuously toward self‑improvement through the active pursuit of professional development activities.
- Implements School Board and school‑based policies and procedures in order to uphold school regulations.
- Assumes other responsibilities and performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and / or Director of Educational Resources / Executive Director of Teaching and Learning.
- Must speak Spanish.
- High School diploma and passing Para Pro scores or a minimum of 60 college credits.
- State of Delaware Para educator Permit required.
- Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators, and parents.
- Experience in working with students of varying abilities.
- Excellent communication, organization and computer skills.
- Knowledge of IDEA 504 and IEPs.
- Criminal background check and Tuberculin testing.
This position may require frequent bending, walking, running and lifting of objects / equipment up to 50 pounds. Additional demands may require moving wheelchairs, assisting with toileting, feeding and other daily living activities. Assist with self‑care plans such as toileting, feeding, personal hygiene, dressing and other daily living activities; physically assist students to engage in activities such as walking or eating, be able to kneel and work on the floor with students, be able to walk for long periods.
Assistance with physically aggressive behaviors required.
