Position: Director of the Center for Climate Change
Location: Germany

Position Summary

The Director of the Center for Climate Change at AUIB, reporting to the Dean of the College of Engineering, leads academic and research initiatives focused on climate and environmental studies. The Director develops programs such as the Environmental Studies minor, organizes high‑impact conferences and workshops, and fosters global partnerships with universities and research institutes. The role also involves securing research grants, publishing in top‑tier journals, and advancing AUIB’s leadership in climate education, research, and sustainability in Iraq and the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development and Leadership: The Director will spearhead the development of comprehensive programs that advance the study and understanding of environmental and climate issues. This encompasses curriculum development for a minor in Environmental Studies at AUIB that is both rigorous and relevant, course modules in climate change and sustainability, and leading research at AUIB that ensures the Institute remains at the forefront of climate education and research.
  • Conference and Workshop Organization: A significant aspect of the role involves the planning and execution of conferences and workshops. These events serve as critical platforms for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and dissemination of research findings and policy recommendations related to climate change. The Director will ensure these gatherings are of the highest quality and relevance to the global climate discourse.
  • Partnership Building: Cultivating strong relationships with environmental and climate researchers, universities, and think tanks globally forms the bedrock of this role. The Director will harness these networks to enhance the institute's research capabilities, foster collaborative projects, and amplify AUIB’s voice in global environmental advocacy. In particular, the Director will be the primary point of contact for the partnership in Engineering and Environmental Studies with Temple University and Bard College, among other partners.
  • Grants and Publications: The Director will seek funding through grants to support climate research at AUIB and in Iraq at large, publish high‑impact articles in Q1 peer‑reviewed journals and contribute to editing scholarly publications emanating from the Institute in partnership with AUIB Press and the AUIB University Research Board (URB). This responsibility includes ensuring the accuracy, relevance, and impact of research, thereby advancing the institute's scholarly contributions to the field.
Education and Experience
  • Required

    Education:

    Doctoral Degree; candidates must possess an earned doctorate in an environmental or related field (e.g., Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Agriculture, Climate Studies, etc.).
  • Years of Relevant

    Experience:

    +5 years of relevant experience.
  • Additional

    Certifications:

    Any certificate related to this field is a plus.
