Location: Logan
5-day, 6.5‑hour Attendant, Central Elementary
Shift Time: 8:25 AM – 3:25 PM
Qualifications- At least 18 years of age.
- “ESEA Highly Qualified” by either:
- Associate degree (preferred) or high school diploma/GED accepted.
- Completed at least two years of study (48 semesters/72 quarter hours) verified by transcript.
- Obtained an associate (or higher) degree.
- Took and passed the Praxis exam for Paraprofessionals as approved by the Ohio Department of Education.
- Physically assisting students with special needs (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.).
- Effective work under direction of others.
- Willingness to assume appropriate responsibilities.
- Support the district’s Mission Statement.
- Professional behavior and communication.
- Good example in dress, punctuality, and attendance.
- Attend required staff, team meetings, and training.
- Capable of lifting 50 lbs.

Job GoalThe job goal or duties described may vary or be amended to meet the needs of the student. Special education attendants work under the overall supervision of the building principal with direct supervision provided by the intervention specialists. They are employed when required to implement special education or related services for a student and/or to provide direct assistance to a student.
Duties will vary depending on the age of students served and the nature and severity of the students’ disabilities.
- Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of classroom teachers.
- Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans and monitor student progress.
- Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable full participation in activities.
- Work with other professionals such as speech therapists, counselors, occupational and physical therapists.
- Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records.
- Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills.
- Help with toileting and hygiene needs of students.
- Provide general duties when the student is absent.
- Conduct other duties as assigned.
