Beehive Industries is dedicated to Powering American Defense by revolutionizing the design, development, and delivery of jet propulsion systems to support the warfighter. Through the integration of additive manufacturing, the company aims to meet the growing and urgent needs for unmanned aerial defense by dramatically improving a jet engine’s speed to market, fuel efficiency, and cost.
Founded in 2020, the company is headquartered in Centennial, Colorado, with additional facilities in Knoxville, Tennessee, Loveland Ohio, and Mount Vernon, Ohio. Beehive is committed to grow and advance the defense industrial base while manufacturing exclusively in the USA. This role will be located at our Centennial, Colorado or Cincinnati, Ohio facility.
Role OverviewBeehive Industries is looking for an energetic and driven Principal Engineer to lead the rotor dynamics design, analysis, and development of novel jet engine and rig designs utilizing new technologies. This role will partner with hardware owners and various cross-functional leadership on a daily basis to develop and deliver the overall rotor and structural designs.
Key Responsibilities- Lead rotor dynamics analysis (critical speeds, forced response, maneuvers, stability, loads, etc.) new jet engines and rigs. Work with hardware owners to develop successful rotor and structure design based on analysis results.
- Conduct operational testing and develop test plans including instrumentation, data acquisition, signal processing. Provide presentations and recommendations based on test results.
- Knowledgeable in finite element analysis and able to apply that knowledge using ANSYS Workbench and associated tools. Includes performing static, modal, and forced response (i.e. HCF) analysis.
- Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to industry standards, business processes, and product requirements.
- Lead design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines in design, , controls, additive manufacturing, bearings, materials and system analysis
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
- Participate in the research and development of technologies and methodologies associated with additive design. Advise on ways to improve product design through the exploitation of additive manufacturing.
- Role will initially be an individual contributor comfortable working in a dynamic self-directed start-up environment. As the organization grows, this role will be responsible for scaling design capability to support additional projects which will likely include some future team leadership. Being able to grow leadership capabilities with the role will be critical.
- Uses engineering judgment to balance complex and conflicting program requirements and propose solutions to optimize overall product performance
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated consistent with engineering best practices
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college
- At least 12 years of experience in gas turbine rotor dynamics.
- Significant experience with Rotor dynamics software (Dyrobes preferred, XLRotor, XLTRC, OEM in-house codes, etc. acceptable) for analyzing critical speeds, forced response, stability, etc.
- Strong understanding of design software tools (CAD, ANSYS, etc)
- Experience with ANSYS Workbench focusing on structural and vibration analysis
- Passion for additive technology and willingness to challenge current design limitations to further exploit the benefits of additive capability
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Demonstrated problem solving ability and strong program leadership and execution skills
- Proven self-starter and…
