Location: Latham
Overview
Service Forester position at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The role is headquartered in Pike County, Ohio, and focuses on providing technical forestry assistance to private landowners, promoting forest conservation, and supporting the division’s mission for sustainable forest management.
Responsibilities- Serve as Service Forester and provide technical forestry assistance to private landowners.
- Inspect forestry land to determine eligibility for classification under the Ohio Forest Tax Law.
- Perform public relations duties to promote interest, activity, and understanding in forest conservation.
- Assist in the division’s mission to promote and apply management for the sustainable use and protection of private and public forest lands.
- Participate in training and development to maintain classification, including completion of a basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course within the first year of employment.
- Completion of undergraduate core coursework in forestry or related field of study.
- At least 12 months of training or experience in public relations, operation of computer software programs, or forestry technician (22321) certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Professional consulting forester credential per Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 1501:3-10-01.
- Successfully complete basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course (S‑130/S‑190) within the first year of employment, per national interagency incident management system guidelines.
- Requires travel and exposure to inclement weather, dust, dirt, insects, and poisonous plants.
- Response to wildfires and other outdoor environmental conditions.
Starting hourly pay of $25.77 per hour with multiple increases over the first 5.5 years of service, culminating in a maximum hourly pay of $33.52
. Additional cost‑of‑living adjustments (COLA) and longevity pay supplements begin after five years of state service.
