Village of Valley View – Building Commissioner

Base Pay: $38.46-$52.88/hour

This position could be part-time or full-time, depending on candidate interest. If full-time, the benefits include OPERS pension system, medical, dental, and vision coverage.

Job Description – Under the administrative direction of the Mayor, the Building Commissioner oversees dayto-day operations of the Building Department, including reviewing plans, blueprints, specifications, and other relevant documentation to ensure compliance with state and local building codes, zoning ordinances, and other applicable requirements. Additionally, the Building Commissioner supervises department operations and personnel, receives and responds to complaints or inquiries, conducts inspection of residential (and potentially commercial) construction projects, enforces zoning code, and other related duties as required.

Qualifications – The ideal candidate is proficient with Microsoft Office programs and standard building software (e.g. Gov QA or similar). Completed secondary education or equivalent is required, in addition to two (2) to four (4) years of related experience as a Building Inspector and necessary licensure and certification. This person should have a public service oriented mindset, conduct themselves professionally, and exercise confidentiality.

Must be available to periodically work non-traditional hours, including (but not limited to) Planning Board meetings each month.
