Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
  • Must possess current or temporary Radiography License as required by state board where services will be provided:
    • MD:
      Radiographer License through Maryland Board of Physicians
    • OH:
      Radiographer License through Ohio Department of Health
    • PA:
      No state licensure required
    • WV:
      Radiography License or Temporary Radiography License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board
  • Must be nationally certified as defined by location where services will be provided:
    • MD:
      Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire
    • OH:
      Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire
    • PA:
      Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 12 months of hire
    • WV:
      Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 6 months of hire
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable) as required for regulated areas.
  • Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Rotates in all diagnostic areas for development of technical skills:
    Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics.
  • Performs image procedures based on assessment of the patient's status, service request, and imaging protocols; monitored by periodic evaluations and supervision.
  • Produces images of optimal quality using imaging equipment and systems for image delivery and archiving.
  • Selects exposure factors based on patient's size, condition, and pathology to achieve optimal image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
  • Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients and other staff by using shielding, collimation, the inverse square law, and reducing repeat exposures.
  • Maintains expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relevant to imaging to optimize procedures and ensure patient care and safety.
  • Assesses patient needs and provides imaging related comfort, hygiene, range of motion, and support.
  • Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays used for the imaging procedure according to procedural guidelines and protocols.
  • Educates patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions.
  • Promotes a team approach to providing radiology services by positively interacting with technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
  • Engages in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements throughout the hospital to promote efficient, high‑quality, and cost‑effective patient care.
  • Demonstrates imaging techniques, patient care, and guest‑relation behaviors in accordance with ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH Administrative Policies, Radiology Department Policies, State and Federal Regulation, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
  • Completes all in‑services and competencies by the required date and applies knowledge gained.
  • Positions patients accurately in accordance with established protocols.
  • Participates in coordination of daily workflow.
  • Provides minimal instruction of radiology students in the clinical setting with regard to patient positioning, technique selection, equipment manipulation, and accessory device use; provides clinical supervision and instruction within program policies and accrediting bodies.
  • Ensures that all vital components of the imaging process are completed in their entirety.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Differentiate various shades of gray and color as depicted on a monitor or photograph.
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Carry items up to 20 pounds.
  • Working Environment
  • Exposure to minimal radiation within national occupational guidelines; monitored by radiation safety and dosimetry.
  • Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
  • Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts.
