Tobacco 21 Coordinator

Under administrative direction, is responsible for assisting with duties related to completion of projects, programs, or initiatives for a City division or department. Serves as the specialist to the supervisor or manager of projects, programs or initiatives. Provide administrative support, schedule meetings and ensure deadlines are met. Assist in creating schedules, timelines, and maintain project budgets. Provides reports, presentations, communications and correspondence as required.

Performs other related duties as required. A High School Diploma or GED is required. An Associate or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited two year or four year college or university in Business or Public Administration, Social Sciences, or closely related field preferred. One year of full-time paid experience in government or private industry is required. Substitution:
Completion of a fellowship program, apprentice program, or other similar program; OR completion of a certification program, i.e., Project Management, Human Resources, etc. Must be able to lift and carry thirty (30) pounds. A valid State of Ohio Driver's License or State-issued identification card. Must be proficient utilizing all Microsoft Office products.

Job Summary

The Tobacco 21 Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating activities that support compliance with local health regulations, specifically Tobacco 21, which prohibits the sale of tobacco products to individuals under the age of 21, and tobacco retailer licensing. This role reports to the Local Inspection Program Manager and works closely with health inspectors, retailers, schools, and other internal and external partners to reduce youth access to tobacco products and promote public awareness of tobacco regulations.

The coordinator tracks enforcement actions and outcomes and is responsive to residents’ complaints and stakeholders’ inquiries.

Essential Duties
  • Lead all activities related to tobacco 21 compliance checks, including youth recruitment, training, and monitoring and retailer follow-up.
  • Provide education to the general public and tobacco retailers on the most current tobacco laws, especially as they pertain to access for people under 21.
  • Coordinate with other providers and community stakeholders on tobacco compliance activities.
  • Review and accept local health code licenses in Accela or other platforms.
  • Assist in preparing reports, public education collateral and legal documents.
  • Serve as liaison between public health department and other city departments.
  • Maintain accurate records of investigations, case actions, timelines, and resolutions of complaints and enforcements.
  • Analyze trends in Tobacco 21 compliance.
  • Provide administrative support to Local Inspection Program Manager.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Experience Required and Additional Duties

One year of full-time paid experience in government or private industry is required.

Substitution

Completion of a fellowship program, apprentice program, or other similar program; OR completion of a certification program, e.g. Project Management, Human Resources, etc.

  • Ability to efficiently multi-task on a daily basis.
  • Proficient with the use of computer and software applications (Microsoft Office Suites), email and office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, scanner, telephone, etc.).
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a valid State of Ohio Driver's License or State-issued identification card.
  • Must be able to lift and carry thirty (30) pounds.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse population.
  • Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
