Overview
We are looking for a skilled API Developer Portal & Documentation Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of a centralized API documentation experience. In this role, you will ensure all edge, gateway, and platform APIs across Vertiv are clearly documented, discoverable, and aligned with governance standards. You will own the developer portal infrastructure, drive consistency across teams, and serve as a bridge between engineering output and developer usability.
Key Responsibilities- Portal Design & Deployment:
Architect and implement a unified API developer portal using platforms such as Swagger Hub, Redoc, or Git Hub Pages—supporting modular documentation aligned with product and domain-specific API subsets. - API Documentation Ownership:
Write, maintain, and publish OpenAPI specifications, usage tutorials, onboarding guides, and integration how-tos for internal and external developers. - Content Governance & Quality Control:
Establish and enforce documentation style guides, reusable templates, and governance checklists to ensure API documentation across teams remains consistent, compliant, and up-to-date. - Developer Enablement & Tooling:
Enable real-time testing via "Try It Out" API consoles, SDK generation, and build sample applications or Postman collections to accelerate adoption and integration. - Feedback & Iterative Improvement:
Actively engage with developers and internal stakeholders to collect feedback, track documentation pain points, and continuously evolve the portal and content experience.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Technical Communication, or a related field. - Experience:
- 3+ years documenting RESTful APIs and managing developer portals or platforms.
- Strong experience working with OpenAPI/Swagger, Postman, and version control tools (e.g., Git Hub).
- Skills:
- Excellent writing and visual communication skills tailored for technical audiences.
- Ability to collaborate closely with engineers to extract and articulate accurate technical details.
- Familiarity with publishing workflows and structured documentation strategies.
- Familiarity with non-REST APIs, such as Graph
QL, gRPC, or event-driven models (Async
API). - Experience managing developer communities, forums, or third-party support channels.
- Basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for portal customization.
You will work closely with API architects, integration engineers, and product managers to support API and API related goals of modular, governed, and schema-driven API ecosystems. This role plays a critical part in enabling internal and third-party developers to understand, adopt, and implement APIs confidently and consistently.
