Quality Line Tech - Nights
CompanyMichael Foods
LocationVillage of West Jefferson, OH – just minutes from the western suburbs of Columbus and about 20 minutes west of downtown. The plant is a greenfield project producing high‑quality protein shakes.
Responsibilities- Work overnights 6:00 pm – 6:30 am (48 hours one week [4 days], 36 hours next [3 days]) on the production floor.
- Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMPs, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality is maintained.
- Report conditions that may adversely affect employee safety or food safety/quality immediately.
- Attend and actively participate in daily shift huddles and handoffs.
- Collect in‑process and finished‑product samples for analytical and microbiological quality checks.
- Verify package coding, product weights, packaging integrity, labeling, temperature, sensory, etc. to ensure compliance with customer and MFI specifications and regulations.
- Inspect and sample incoming ingredients to ensure product quality and safety.
- Assist in drafting, revising, and maintaining plant SOPs.
- Act as a liaison between Production, Distribution, Sanitation, Maintenance, and the Quality Department, communicating quality issues and aiding corrective action implementation.
- Participate in plant food safety/quality inspections, in‑process inspections, mock recall, label audits, HACCP audits.
- Verify proper set‑up of production lines at start‑up and shift change (printer set‑up, packaging materials, labeling, quality limits, etc.).
- Review sanitary condition of production lines prior to start‑up by visual and mechanical inspection, performing ATP and APC testing.
- Perform pH analysis of samples as part of root‑cause investigations.
- Use inventory control software to prevent non‑conforming product from entering commerce.
- Assist investigations in response to customer concerns or other quality deviations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
- Assist in managing quality hold activities, including non‑conforming inventory.
- Ensure lab equipment, fridges, and thermometers are properly maintained and calibrated.
- Maintain and follow MFI micro‑sample and shelf‑life study programs.
- Demonstrate willingness to learn and grow.

- Attend safety meetings and trainings.
- Train new hires as required.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
- Foster open communication and a positive attitude toward work and fellow employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Positive and engaging attitude toward colleagues.
- 1+ year of food manufacturing or quality assurance experience.
- Experience with food manufacturing and GMPs.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills.
- Ability to work independently or in a group.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Effective communication skills with other employees.
- Ability to calculate basic mathematics.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out oral instructions and solve problems involving one concrete variable in standardized situations.
