Job Description

The Big Picture

Harrod Christian Church exists to preach the Gospel, save souls, and help people grow in their relationship with Christ. It is a welcoming, Bible-believing, non-denominational church with roots in the Christian Church/Church of Christ tradition, valuing biblical teaching, fellowship, outreach, and a church environment where members are comfortable inviting friends and family.

The congregation is small and close-knit, with approximately 30-40 adults and 20+ children attending regularly. With so many young families and children, the church sees significant opportunity for growth, particularly in youth and family ministry. Children's ministry and Junior Sunday programming are in place with dedicated teachers and volunteers, and the church is developing a stronger youth ministry and youth group that it hopes its next pastor will enjoy helping lead.

Harrod is located in the Allen East area, about seven minutes from Allen East Schools, with opportunities to connect with families through the schools, community events, and Vacation Bible School.

Job Profile

Harrod Christian Church is seeking a Bible-believing, Gospel-centered pastor committed to expository preaching, who will become an active part of the church family and community, has a heart for people of all ages, and is excited about helping a small church grow spiritually and numerically. The church is open-minded regarding age and stage of ministry.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver biblically sound, engaging sermons with an emphasis on expository preaching.
  • Provide spiritual leadership and help establish a clear vision for the church's future.
  • Encourage spiritual growth and discipleship among members.
  • Support and help develop ministries for children, youth, young families, men and women.
  • Help establish and grow a meaningful youth ministry.
  • Build relationships with church members through regular interaction, visitation, pastoral care, and participation in church life.
  • Be visible and involved in the Harrod and Allen East community.
  • Encourage outreach and create opportunities to reach individuals and families who are not currently connected to a church.
  • Participate in and support church activities such as Lifewise, Vacation Bible School, community events, and outreach programs.
  • Provide pastoral support during significant life events, including illness, hospitalization, weddings, funerals, and other family needs.
  • Work cooperatively with church leadership, ministry leaders, teachers, and volunteers.
  • Encourage members to discover and use their gifts in serving the church and community.

What the church hopes to find:

  • Loves Scripture and teaches God's Word faithfully and clearly, on a level that youth to adults can follow.
  • Has a heart for people and genuinely enjoys becoming part of their lives.
  • Values children and young families as an opportunity to build a strong ministry for the next generation.
  • Supports women in ministry and church involvement.
  • Enjoys the youth and is willing to encourage the youth group leaders in their programming.
  • Is community-minded, approachable, and relatable.
  • Has a vision for growth that includes spiritual maturity, discipleship, service, outreach, and welcoming new people.

This is a full-time position with benefits. Harrod Christian Church intends to offer a competitive total compensation package based on experience, family needs, and the final agreement between the pastor and church. The package may include:

  • Church-provided parsonage (3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living area, basement, and upstairs living space, located near the church) and utilities associated with the parsonage
  • Health insurance assistance
  • Retirement contribution
  • Paid vacation/time off
  • Opportunities for future compensation growth

Specific salary and benefit arrangements will be discussed during the interview and call process.
