Preoperative/Post‑Anesthesia Care Registered Nurse – Full‑time position at Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Chardon, OH.
Position OverviewYou will prepare patients for surgery and monitor and care for them immediately after the procedure, facilitating discharge and ensuring patient safety.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, plan, implement, and coordinate patient care from admission to discharge.
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures and monitor them in the PACU.
- Conduct patient care activities consistent with the facility’s policies and Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities.
- Handle patient information confidentially and sensitively.
- Assesses patient status on admission and ongoing basis.
- Implements appropriate standards of care based on assessment data.
- Coordinates nursing interventions to achieve expected outcomes and readiness for discharge.
- Ensures daily patient care in an organized and timely manner.
- Adheres to all facility policies and procedures when providing patient care.
- Utilizes nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care.
- Directs and provides patient care in emergency situations.
- Assesses learning needs and promotes patient education.
- Assumes a leadership role in quality nursing care for patients.
- Analyzes and evaluates nursing care relative to established standards.
- Participates in monitoring and improvement of nursing care.
- Adapt care plans in response to patient age and developmental needs.
- Provides appropriate safety interventions.
- Demonstrates competence in designated skills for the position.
- Engages in patient care activities in compliance with RN job description.
- Admission assessment upon patient arrival.
- Document responses to nursing actions.
- Treat patients and families with courtesy, respect, and professionalism.
- Provide pre‑ and post‑operative instructions verbally and in writing.
- Stock unit, check crash cart, and count narcotics.
- Follow up with patients via phone or written communication.
- Prepare patient for surgery using preference cards.
- Document unusual occurrences and postoperative complications for quality improvement.
- Conduct frequent ongoing patient condition assessments.
- Administer pain and anti‑nausea medications promptly.
- Knowledge and experience in PACU or critical care nursing.
- Effective communication skills.
- Customer‑relations skills via telephone and face‑to‑face interaction.
- Positive attitude towards colleagues.
- Ability to prioritize and provide clear direction to others.
- Ability to correlate clinical data with clinical care.
- Current licensure to practice in the State of Ohio.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required; ACLS and PALS preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Minimum of 2 years experienced in PACU, ICU, or ER nursing preferred.
- Ability to frequently hear and communicate orally.
- Ability to see up close and at a distance.
- Ability to read and understand written information.
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and feel objects.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull, including a 150‑lb patient.
- Maximum unassisted lift >100 lbs.
- Ability to wear lead apron and move heavy equipment.
