Scope of Project Climate:
Climate Analytics is currently implementing a project to develop an integrated methodology for attributing extreme heat events and their subsequent impacts in the Global South to human‑induced climate change. This initiative establishes a robust framework that links greenhouse gas emissions to specific climate damages through quantitative allocation analysis, adapts extreme event attribution science for climate‑vulnerable regions, and assesses the resulting socioeconomic impacts.
Scope of Consultancy:
To ensure the project’s success and local relevance, we seek a local expert to conduct the Karachi, Pakistan case study. The consultant will perform in‑country activities including data collection, background literature research, and contextualizing the framework for Karachi’s specific regional realities. The work will include:
- Contributing to the Socio‑Economic Impact Assessment by gathering qualitative and quantitative data on the impacts of extreme heat from local sources (interviews, hospitals, health providers, local employers, policy makers, etc.). We will look at mortality, morbidity, heat‑related loss in labour productivity and income, poverty, indebtedness, caregiving responsibilities.
- Performing background‑literature research on current local heat‑health adaptation interventions (policies, programs, pilot projects).
- Bringing local expertise on socio‑economic context and social norms for data evaluation.
Expected Deliverables:
The consultant will deliver over the contract period:
- Bi‑weekly progress reporting: update meetings every two weeks and a final wrap‑up session in April.
- Local data gathering: approach at least five local sources; conduct at least four interviews with experts or key local stakeholders; provide transcripts and engagement summary. Finalized by end of March.
- Socio‑Economic Impacts
Summary:
a living document compiling quantitative and qualitative impacts data with context. Final version due before wrap‑up. - Policy Landscape Review: living document summarizing policies, programs, and initiatives on heat‑health adaptation. Final version due before wrap‑up.
- Final submission: delivery of all finalized documents, transcripts, and summaries by end of April.
Your profile:
The ideal consultant is a professional locally based in Karachi with deep roots and proven experience in conducting field research and stakeholder engagement within the specific case study location.

Qualifications:
- Local Presence & Language:
Physically based in or very near the case study location and fluent in the relevant local language. - Field Research
Experience:
Demonstrated experience in qualitative data collection (interviews, focus groups, stakeholder engagement). - Stakeholder Network & Access:
Proven ability to navigate local institutions and communities and access key data sources. - Cultural & Contextual Understanding:
Deep understanding of socio‑economic and cultural context, including labour market and health systems.
