We are looking for a research associate in computer science or medical informatics, to join the central data infrastructure project of a newly established Collaborative Research Center (CRC) on Circadian Medicine, a joint initiative between Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the University of Lübeck. The position is embedded in the research group "Health Data Privacy" at the Berlin Institute of Health, led by Prof.
Dr.
-Ing. Maija Poikela (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).), and includes close collaboration with medical informatics expert Prof. Fabian Prasser and systems biology expert Prof. Lisa Buchauer. This role is to ensure ethical data handling and privacy protection within the whole CRC. It involves providing ongoing support and training to researchers on data protection, developing and implementing privacy-preserving strategies for multimodal and longitudinal data, and contributes to methodological research in data privacy.
responsibilities
- Investigating and evaluating privacy-preserving computational methods.
- Contributing to publications and reports on privacy-enhancing technologies and their application to complex, multimodal, and longitudinal datasets.
- Collaboration with data stewards, IT, legal, and ethics teams across institutions.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of consortium-wide data management plans.
- Providing data protection expertise and training for CRC members.
- Master’s degree in computer science, medical informatics, or a related field
- Good understanding of relevant data protection regulations and principles
- Familiarity with privacy-preserving methods
- Independent, structured, and detail-oriented working style
- Strong communication skills for training and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Fluency in English (written and oral)
- Experience in implementing GDPR compliance measures in research projects or infrastructures
- Experience in providing training or documentation on data protection

- Interest in human factors in privacy
- Fluency in German
