Position Summary
Sr. Mobile Diesel Mechanic - Fleet Services, Cox Automotive Inc.
Fleet Services, a Cox Automotive Company, is a leading provider of on‑site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide for light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks and trailers.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Conduct minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment, including aluminum and chem‑lite, brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer equipment and systems, including welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels and body framework.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and determine accuracy and relevance of information.
- Independently manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Work with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent assignments, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work in accordance with company standards, upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) via the proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely fashion.
- Operate independently and manage personal daily schedule.
- Maintain productivity within standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- High‑school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related experience. A different combination such as a higher degree or 5 years of experience is acceptable.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with refrigerated equipment.
- Possess and supply the necessary hand tools to perform required duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- Complete all company‑required training programs.
- Commit to DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical, or provide a valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until expiration.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Safe driver with a valid state driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
