Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach

Kenyon College invites applications for the position of Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach. This is a full‑time, 10‑month reporting position with benefits. Under the general direction of the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach, the assistant coach will assist in all facets of the NCAA D‑III Women’s Volleyball program in accordance with NCAA, NCAC, and Kenyon College policies and regulations. The role contributes to success in recruiting qualified student‑athletes, ensuring a positive student‑athlete experience, day‑to‑day operations, and successful coaching of the volleyball student‑athletes.

Additional responsibilities will be assigned in game management, teaching, and/or administration.

Essential Functions
  • Mentor student athletes.
  • Coach athletes on both offense and defense; advise and instruct on skill development in all position groups.
  • Teach the basic fundamentals of the game using a skill set that complements the head coach’s.
  • Provide opportunities for captains and players to become scholars of the game of volleyball.
  • Represent Kenyon College always in a positive and enthusiastic light.
  • Lead and assist with designated departmental, divisional, and/or college committees, initiatives and processes.
  • Develop meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus.
  • Recruit academically and athletically strong applicants for admission in Kenyon’s selective, highly competitive pool using ARMS software, including preparing promotional materials.
  • Work in conjunction with athletic trainers to maintain student‑athlete welfare.
  • Stay up‑to‑date with sport and coaching best practices to provide opportunities for all involved to become students of the game by sharing knowledge.
  • Perform additional duties in event/game management and teaching as determined annually by the Event Manager, Facility Manager(s) and Director of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation.
Other Expectations
  • Serve as a member of the Athletics, Fitness and Recreation team, providing leadership, goals, and program implementation on a fully residential campus.
  • Develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with student affairs colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners to accomplish shared objectives and tasks.
  • Assist with special projects and duties as needed.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and compliance with the College’s and Department of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation policies and procedures as well as the NCAC and NCAA constitutions, bylaws, legislation and regulations.
  • Adhere to the Department of Athletics’ student‑athlete handbook and the Student Affairs and College mission statements.

Working Conditions
  • Some heavy lifting/moving equipment is required.
  • Work schedule is not traditional or regular: early morning, day, late evenings, weekends, college breaks and summers are required.
  • Travel for athletic contests, recruiting, coaches meetings, and convention/caucus attendance is required.
  • Ability to obtain College driver certification is necessary.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated experience instructing on the rules and fundamentals of the sport.
  • Collegiate playing experience.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification required (can be completed after hire).
