Our client, a mission-driven organization with operations across Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana, is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for the timely and accurate processing of payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees while partnering closely with HR, Benefits, and operational teams. You'll play a critical role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while supporting compliance, reporting, and payroll best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
- Process semi-monthly payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees across multiple locations
- Review, validate, and audit payroll and timekeeping data to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee questions, and compensation issues
- Generate payroll reports and conduct quality control reviews before payroll submission
- Process payroll adjustments, special calculations, and off-cycle payroll transactions as needed
- Partner with HR and Benefits teams to accurately administer leaves of absence and benefit-related payroll changes
- Support payroll tax reporting, reconciliations, year-end processing, and other compliance-related activities
- Maintain employee payroll records and documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements
- Assist with government reporting and payroll-related audits
- Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, time reporting, and employment verification requests
- Stay current on payroll laws, regulations, and industry best practices
- Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of payroll
- Experience processing payroll in a high-volume or multi-location environment preferred
- Strong understanding of payroll practices, wage and hour compliance, and payroll regulations
- Experience with payroll and HRIS systems;
Paylocity experience is a plus - Experience with timekeeping systems and payroll audits preferred
- Knowledge of garnishments, child support orders, tax with holdings, and other payroll deductions
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and payroll-related technology
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
