Job SummaryThe Associate Underwriter performs underwriting functions to support Enterprise goals and objectives, including new business and an assigned book of business on cases with less than 500 subscribers.
PrimaryJob Responsibilities
- Develops an overall understanding of insurance concepts, dental and/or vision terminology, benefits, risk assessment, underwriting guidelines, contract language, and the underwriting process and procedures.
- Evaluates risk, develops and approves renewal rates, and approves contracts for the assigned book of business, consistent with approved rating formulas and methodologies.
- Determines and defines eligibility and approves new business rates, proposals, and contracts.
- Responds to inter-departmental requests and manages a book of business to ensure new sales, retention, and profitability expectations are met.
- Meets internal quality and turnaround metrics.
Position requires an associate’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, mathematics, or a related field, and two years of experience analyzing data and using mathematical and algebraic theories and formulas. A bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a related field is preferred. We will accept any suitable combination of education, training, or experience.
Position requires knowledge of mathematical and algebraic theories and formulas, and word processing and spreadsheet applications; strong analytical skills; strong organizational skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Occasional travel is required.
