Position Description
Assist with supervising a safe and well‑organized childcare program by planning and participating in group activities with children at a designated childcare site.
Job Type: Part‑time
Morning and Afternoon shifts are available, but both are not required to be hired for this position.
- Morning shifts: 6:45‑9am and 7:30‑9:15am (Monday - Friday)
- Afternoon shifts: 2:30‑6pm, 3‑6pm, and 3:30‑6pm (Monday - Friday)
- Establish a positive relationship with the program participants.
- Implement weekly activities for a group of 10‑15 children.
- Lead games and activities provided through program curriculum.
- Ensure the safety and well‑being of all children.
- Know where all group members are at all times.
- Take daily attendance and ensure each child is signed in and out by a responsible party each day.
- Actively engage children and participants in activities.
- Prepare and distribute USDA and HEPA approved snacks and/or meals to participants.
- Perform daily count of meals and snacks served.
- Report all injuries and incidences to the site coordinator and/or program director.
- Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings to help plan activities, and attend required in‑person and online trainings.
- Display YMCA character values (Honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility at all times).
- Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors, and volunteers.
- Must have an interest in and a love for children and exemplify and support the YMCA philosophy.
- Must stay current in CPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually. (Training provided by the Y if needed)
- Must complete all required Redwoods trainings within 30 days of hire and renew annually.
- Must be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED. Junior program staff may be 16‑17 years of age.
- Job consists of working with school‑age children and requires participation in activities with children.
- Position may require work outside the regularly scheduled program hours.
- Must attend all scheduled YMCA trainings, have current CPR certification, and uphold the YMCA employee appearance guidelines.
