Pay RangeBase pay range
: $/yr – $/yr (actual pay based on skills and experience).
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
- United States Citizenship:
Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. - Doctor of Medicine (MD) or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or District of Columbia.
- Residency training in an accredited core specialty training program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs leading to board certification eligibility.
- Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) may be appointed if currently enrolled in an ACGME/AOA accredited residency program and fully licensed.
- PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
- PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they have a scope of practice allowing certain restricted duties under supervision.
- Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board certification preferred.
Experience:
General orthopedic surgery with a fellowship in any orthopedic specialty. - Meeting the VAH 5005 – Part II – Appendix G2 (dated 04/01/2020).
- Physical requirements:
may require long periods of walking, standing, sitting, light lifting, reaching overhead, bending, stooping, and work in front of a computer; close visual acuity to perform activities such as patient notes, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, and repetitive wrist/hand/finger motions. - Must complete annual Employee Health requirements (e.g., annual TB screening or testing) as a condition of employment.
- Work environment: health care setting with adequate lighting, heating, and cooling; exposure to infection and possible contagious diseases; standard precautions and isolation techniques will be employed; occasional response to physical or verbal abuse may be required.
- Must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations and able to shift priorities based on patient needs.

No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting. - Work Schedule:
Full‑time, Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (includes on‑call rotation coverage).
