Position: Professor, Earth and Environmental Sciences (Temporary)

Overview

Professor, Earth and Environmental Sciences (Temporary) – Rose State College

Base pay range: $47,525.00/yr - $53,625.00/yr. This range is provided by Rose State College. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and teach undergraduate physics, physical science, earth science, and/or environmental science courses.
  • Collaborate on curriculum development with the Program Coordinator; report directly to the Dean, STEM.
  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with course syllabi and the published schedule of classes; administer final exams as required unless an exception is approved in writing by the Division Dean.
  • Participate in revision of existing course syllabi or write new ones; cooperate with other professors in instructional procedures; recommend textbook changes.
  • Maintain daily attendance records and accurate scholastic records; submit grade reports according to the Division Dean’s schedule.
  • Assist as assigned by the Division Dean as a member of faculty committees; attend all scheduled faculty meetings.
  • Teach a minimum of fifteen credit hours per semester; schedule at least 12.5 office hours per week and post the office hour schedule; provide a copy to the Division Dean.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Division Dean or Program Coordinator; maintain high standards for directed-study and online courses.
  • Supervise student use of laboratories and classrooms when open; arrange supervision if the professor cannot be present.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in the discipline or related area, OR Master's Degree plus 18 graduate hours in the discipline or related area.
  • Two (2) years of teaching experience.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills to interact with and teach students from varying socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to plan and carry out effective instructional lessons and utilize instructional technology.
  • Proficiency with computers and MS Office (Word and Outlook).
  • Light carrying up to 10 lbs. and light lifting up to 10 lbs. required. Ability to reach above shoulder; periods of sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and stooping; mobility to move between buildings on-campus and to off-campus sites/facilities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of college-level teaching experience.
  • Experience/education/training related to working at a community college.
  • A profound desire to teach freshman and sophomore level science courses.
  • Experience using laboratories/computers to supplement instruction; ability to teach GIS, MATLAB, and Python.
  • An earned PhD in an Earth Science or closely related discipline.
