Position Information
Position:
Staff at the Math Resource Center. Eligible for regular part‑time. Annual hours: 1300 hrs, salary range $13.67 - $14.70.
General Description:
Performs instructional support activities, tutoring students, troubleshooting homework software, assisting with mathematical technology, administering calculator lease program, proctoring exams, maintaining logs and records, basic clerical duties.
• Tutor students in the Math Resource Center (in‑person, via email/Zoom). Assist students with math assignments, assess understanding, encourage problem‑solving, demonstrate use of graphing calculators, software, and tutorial programs.
• Provide virtual tutoring to online or distance students and instruct on mathematical technology.
• Assist with administering and maintaining a calculator lease program and other student services.
• Accept phone calls to provide information and tutoring.
• Maintain the fixture and materials in the Math Resource Center, including filing of instructional software and textbooks.
• Schedule and mentor new tutors and assistants; assist in staff scheduling.
• Collect and report usage data, inventory items, and maintain records and scheduling logs.
• Assist with proctoring exams and record keeping.
• Open and close the Math Resource Center following procedures, enforce policies.
• Participate in training and professional development sessions.
QualificationsEducation:
Associate’s degree or equivalent (60 successful college credit hours) including at least 15 credit hours of college‑level mathematics (C or better) or 12 credit hours of Calculus (C or better).
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of mathematical software (Maple, Geometer’s Sketchpad) and tutorial programs (My Math Lab , Connect Math, Web Assign).
- Skills:
using TI‑84 and TI‑89 graphing calculators, tablet, computers and Microsoft Office; organizing work; communicating mathematical concepts; filing alphabetically. - Abilities: punctual and reliable; learning new programs; attention to detail; confidentiality; maintaining orderly environment; effective interaction with students; understanding content to aid difficulty; following directions.
Light work with occasional lifting up to 20 lbs; frequent communication with students and staff; frequent movement around the Math Lab; operating computers and office/lab equipment; repetitive hand motions; standing and stationary duties; occasional reaching and positioning. Work performed indoors, flexible schedule includes evenings and Saturdays.
Required TrainingQuarterly compliance training as assigned by the institution.
