About El Camino Elementary

In the  school year, Santa Fe South proudly continues the growth of El Camino Elementary, our sixth elementary campus. After opening its doors in its inaugural year with Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade, El Camino is now expanding to include 2nd grade and adding one additional teaching position at each existing grade level. The school will continue to grow annually, adding one grade per year until it reaches 5th grade.
The Role of a Founding 1st Grade Teacher at El Camino

The Founding 1st Grade Teacher plays a critical role in bridging early foundational skills from Kindergarten to more independent, grade-level learning. First grade is a pivotal year in which students solidify foundational literacy and numeracy skills, strengthen stamina and independence, and begin to see themselves as confident readers, writers, and mathematicians.

As part of a growing, founding campus, 1st grade teachers are both educators and builders. They collaborate closely with teammates and school leaders to refine instructional systems, establish consistent routines, and uphold a joyful, high-expectations classroom culture. This role requires adaptability, strong instructional practice, and a commitment to building a cohesive school community from the ground up.

Founding 1st Grade Teachers are expected to deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction across all subject areas, with particular emphasis on literacy and mathematics. Instruction is intentional and responsive, supporting students as they develop reading fluency, deepen comprehension, write with increasing clarity and structure, and engage in mathematical reasoning using concrete and visual models. Teachers use data to inform instruction, provide targeted support, and ensure all learners make measurable academic growth while continuing to develop strong habits of learning.
