Job SummaryResponsible for the safe, reliable, stable, and economic round‑the‑clock operation of OG&E’s electric transmission system while maintaining compliance with the regulatory obligations imposed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). The role has the authority to implement real‑time actions to ensure system stability.
Responsibilities- Proactively takes steps to enhance the operation of the control center and backup control center.
- Leads backup center activation drills and actively provides mentoring to transmission operators.
- Ensures reliability of the Bulk Electric System by monitoring and controlling system parameters such as line flows and transmission‑level voltage, and acts promptly to return the system to a stable state during excursions.
- Maintains real‑time compliance with reliability standards set by regulatory authorities.
- Monitors and controls system alarms, load, voltage, VAR flow, transformer flows, tap positions, and maintains acceptable voltage profiles per NERC reliability standards and OG&E policies.
- Leads or assists in transmission system troubleshooting, determining trouble location, analyzing causes, and routing reports for corrective action.
- Writes, reviews, evaluates, coordinates, and directs all switching operations to safely and reliably take transmission facilities out of service and back into service.
- Directs immediate actions by transmission operators, generator operators, load‑serving entities, and distribution operators to preserve system integrity.
- Directs transmission switching, load shedding, and generator loading to meet NERC operating policy requirements under normal and emergency conditions.
- Acts as the operating authority for the OG&E transmission system and takes corrective actions as directed by the SPP Reliability Coordinator.
- Performs system contingency analysis to identify line or transformer overloads or abnormal voltages.
- Initiates OG&E black start and system restoration procedures when required.
- Maintains accurate System Operator Log entries and provides backup coverage for next‑level supervision.
- Participates in continuous process improvement projects, may serve as interviewee for compliance audits, and performs any other duties as assigned.
- May be required to work non‑standard schedules, including on‑call and call‑outs.
- Requires rotating shift work.
- May require occasional travel.
- Employees will not be required to drive as part of their duties.
- The role involves oversight of critical services and infrastructure, including electric utilities, power generation, and distribution.
- Advanced knowledge of NERC and SPP criteria and requirements.
- Demonstrated leadership and continuous improvement of technical abilities.
- Ability to apply depth of knowledge to guide system reliability decisions.
- Advanced technical knowledge of voltage control, protective relaying, and emergency operation conditions.
- Ability to perform real‑time load flow studies and contingency analysis.
- Proficient computer skills with advanced knowledge of specialized applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle stress and work efficiently during emergencies and heavy workloads.
- Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures and safety/ electrical hazards.
- Ability to work effectively in a team without direct supervision.
- Ability to maintain required certifications and work rotating shifts.
- High School Diploma or GED and:
- 5 years of Transmission Operator/System Operator experience with OG&E System Operator training completed within 9 months of start, or
- 5 years of Regional Transmission Organization experience in a related role (e.g., Reliability Coordinator, Real‑Time Balancing), with training within 9 months, or
- 7 years of combined experience in a Transmission Control Center, Distribution Control Center, or RTBO role, with training within 9 months, or
- 2 years of OG&E System Operator staff experience.
- NERC System Operator Certification (TO or higher level).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Pre‑employment drug screening required.
- This position is classified as a safety‑sensitive job under state law. Applicants are subject to the terms of OG&E Energy Corp.’s Drug Testing Plan.
Salary Range: $125,000 - $140,000
