Position Overview
The Assistant Controller supports the Controller and finance leadership team in overseeing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial information, managing day-to-day accounting activities, and helping drive continuous improvement within the finance function. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, knowledgeable in GAAP, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & Accounting Operations
Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Oversee general ledger activity, ensuring accurate and timely posting of transactions.
Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Review and approve account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Internal Controls & Compliance
Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
Support audit activities (external and internal) by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Supervise and mentor members of the accounting team, including AP/AR, staff accountants, and payroll as needed.
Provide guidance on complex accounting issues and support team development.
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, finance, HR, and other departments to support business initiatives.
Process Improvement & Systems
Assist with system implementations, upgrades, and process automation projects.
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and analytical efforts as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting experience a plus.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and internal control frameworks.
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Net Suite, Sage, Quick Books) and advanced Excel skills.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders.
Leadership experience preferred.
Compensation is $100k - $140k depending on education and experience.
