Community Hospital is hiring a PRN Surgical Tech

Under the general supervision, the Surgical Tech II performs the scrub role and maintains a safe sterile environment, which includes preparing, passing, holding, inserting, removing, cleaning and assembly of instruments, equipment and supplies; counting sponges, needles, sharps and instruments; and assists the RN with delegated circulating duties, transporting, positioning, skin preps and specimen preparation in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures.
Always works as a team member within the entire facility. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Perform the scrub role and assist with all aspects of the care of the surgical patient according to policy and procedure and care standards.
- Take direction from others and follow through concisely, promoting efficiency.
- Communicate using written, verbal and non‑verbal skills when interacting with staff, physicians, and ancillary departments.
- Set priorities.
- Apply sterile and aseptic techniques.
- Know anatomy and surgical procedures.
- Act to protect and advance the patient’s best interest.
- Maintain knowledge of equipment, expected patient outcomes and anticipated complications.
- Employees with 1–2 years’ experience can apply to become a first assist. If not certified, they must attend a basic first‑assist skills class and provide a demonstration in a competency‑based class.
- Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description and continuously demonstrate competency.
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology.
- Certification as a Surgical Tech preferred.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- AHA BLS healthcare certification required within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified.
