Position Overview:

Developmental Center Occupational Therapists are responsible for providing transdisciplinary model occupational therapy services to children with special needs at The Little Light House. Must be a licensed occupational therapist and function within the transdisciplinary (TD) philosophy and team of the Little Light House. The OT clearly understands and embraces that they are part of Little Light House, a Christian ministry with Biblical core values, whose mission is to glorify God by improving the quality of life for children with special needs, their families, and communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • 1. Therapeutic Intervention and Assessment
    • Conducts occupational therapy assessments and provides individualized therapy interventions for children with special needs, in both individual and group settings, in accordance with LLH policies and timelines.
    • Develops therapeutic goals in collaboration with families for each assigned student, ensuring alignment with their specific needs.
    • Implements occupational therapy interventions consistent with a transdisciplinary (TD) team approach and functions.
    • Consults with classroom staff and parents on therapeutic needs related to equipment, sensory integration, behavioral strategies, self-care, fine motor skills, and other relevant areas.
    • Demonstrates therapeutic, sensory, and behavioral interventions to classroom staff, while modeling small group activities and proper use of equipment within the TD framework.
    • Designs and leads fine motor activities within the classroom, ensuring alignment with the overall curriculum.
    • Coordinates with external therapists, professionals, and agencies as necessary to ensure the comprehensive integration of therapeutic services for students.
  • 2. Collaboration and Consultation
    • Collaborates with members of the transdisciplinary (TD) team to address the holistic therapeutic needs of each student.
    • Consults with classroom staff and parents to provide ongoing guidance regarding equipment, sensory integration, behavioral needs, and other therapeutic areas.
    • Advocates for children with special needs within the academic community through the facilitation of educational projects and therapeutic initiatives that enhance students  development and independence.
  • 3. Training and Professional Development
    • Provides in-service training and professional development to staff, volunteers, and parents, as requested or when needed.
    • Participates in workshops, seminars, in-services, and relevant conferences to stay informed of best practices and emerging trends in the field of occupational therapy.
    • Actively engages in transdisciplinary (TD) and LLH task forces and committees as assigned, contributing expertise to collaborative efforts.
  • 4. Administrative Responsibilities
    • Completes all assigned paperwork accurately and within the designated timelines, maintaining high standards of documentation.
    • Performs additional duties as required to support organizational needs.
  • 5. Attendance and Event Participation
    • Participates in two required CS events annually, such as monthly family gatherings, to support community engagement.
    • Attends LLH fundraising events, contributing to the organization’s mission and goals.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university.
  • Holds a current license in the State of Oklahoma as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Minimum three years’ experience working with children with developmental disabilities.
  • Holds current CPR certification.
  • Possesses current and effective knowledge and skills in:
  • Neuromotor development and child development;
  • Sensory Processing;
  • Assessment and documentation;
  • Adaptive equipment and assistive technology;
  • Occupational therapy procedures and interventions;
  • Interpersonal relationships;
  • Supervision of assigned employees, students, or volunteers;
  • Transdisciplinary teamwork;
  • Maintains confidential information using discretion and judgment.
