Basic Purpose
Positions in this job family are responsible for performing professional work in assistive technology services for the vocational rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities, including evaluating work capacities and providing technical assistance for home/work site modifications.

Typical Functions

  • Completes assessments for assistive technology and accommodations related to home, vehicle, job site, and employment modifications.
  • Compares the strengths, weaknesses, and costs of assistive technology interventions to determine appropriate devices and services.
  • Prepares detailed reports on assessments with recommendations for devices, services, and vendors.
  • Provides consultation on purchasing and implementation of assistive technology.
  • Prepares drawings, photos, schematics for bid processes.
  • Maintains records of assessments, contracts, and resources.
  • Delivers devices, provides orientation, training, inspections, and follow-up assessments.
  • Provides training and advocates for assistive technology use; serves as a subject matter expert.
  • Participates in developing program policies and procedures.

Level Descriptor

Level I:
Trainee level performing assessments under supervision, focusing on computer access. Not performing complex assessments unless with a mentor.

Level II:
Performs assessments independently, may conduct training and public speaking.

Level III:
Performs all types of assessments, develops training curricula, and makes presentations. Acts as community liaison.

Level IV:
Supervises staff, involved in projects, policy development, and training.

Education and Experience

  • Level I:
    Master’s degree in relevant field or a master’s degree with 1-year experience.
  • Level II:
    Master’s degree with 2 years experience or certification/licensure eligibility.
  • Level III:
    Master’s degree with 3 years experience and certification in assistive technology.
  • Level IV:
    Master’s degree with 4 years experience, certification, and leadership training.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Level I:
    Knowledge of disabilities, assistive technology, funding resources; effective communication skills.
  • Level II:
    Additional knowledge of problem-solving, ADA, standards; ability to analyze and develop solutions.
  • Level III & IV:
    Includes supervisory practices, curriculum development, and public speaking skills.

Special Requirements

  • Extensive travel, overnight stays, and working beyond 8 hours.
  • Participation in continuing education.
  • Position may be filled at any level from I to IV.
  • Location:

    Oklahoma City with frequent statewide travel.
