Business Systems & Technology Analysis, IT Business Analyst, Data Analyst
We are seeking a Business Analyst to join our cloud data platform team.
This is an entry-level role ideal for someone early in their career who is organized, curious about data, and eager to help bridge the gap between business stakeholders and our cloud data platform team.
You will support requirements gathering, backlog management, and process and governance work across our modern data stack (Snowflake, dbt Cloud) and legacy systems (SQL Server, Informatica).
You'll work closely with business stakeholders across our oil and gas operations, as well as with our Data Engineers, Integration Analysts, and Data Scientists/BI team, to ensure the platform delivers well-understood, well-documented, and well-tested capabilities.
Job Responsibilities:- Partner with business stakeholders across oil and gas operations to gather, document, and validate requirements for the cloud data platform
- Translate business needs into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and requirements documentation for Data Engineers and Integration Analysts to build against
- Maintain and groom the platform backlog in Azure Dev Ops, keeping priorities, statuses, and documentation current
- Support test planning and help coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) for new data pipelines, reports, and platform enhancements
- Create and maintain process documentation, data dictionaries, and governance artifacts for the data platform
- Serve as a communication bridge between business stakeholders, Data Engineers/Integration Analysts, and Data Scientists/BI team members
- Help identify, document, and track data quality issues through to resolution
- Support project planning, status reporting, and stakeholder meetings for cloud data platform initiatives
- Assist with change management and end-user training as new platform capabilities are released
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience
- 0–2 years of experience as a business analyst, project/program coordinator, or similar role (internships and co-op experience welcome)
- Basic SQL literacy — comfortable reading and interpreting queries to understand data and table structures; not expected to write complex SQL
- Basic AI literacy — Ability to leverage AI-powered tools to gather insights, summarize information, draft business requirements, and support decision-making. Understands that AI is an assistant rather than a source of truth and can validate outputs using appropriate business context
- Basic Programming literacy — Foundational understanding of programming concepts and the ability to write, modify, and troubleshoot simple scripts to support business analysis activities. Familiarity with a common business-oriented language such as Python for data analysis, automation, and problem-solving
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate between business and technical audiences
- Comfort working with backlog and work-management tools such as Azure Dev Ops, or a strong willingness to learn
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities
- Exposure to oil and gas operations or the energy industry
- Familiarity with cloud data platform concepts such as Snowflake, dbt, or modern ELT patterns
- Experience facilitating requirements-gathering sessions or writing user stories and acceptance criteria
- Experience supporting UAT, QA, or release/change-management processes
- Interest in growing into a broader data and analytics career path
