OHP Troopers are assigned responsibilities involving law enforcement duties in the Highway Patrol Division of the Department of Public Safety. These responsibilities include conducting patrols on roads and highways in an assigned area or district to enforce motor vehicle, criminal and other laws, safeguarding citizens and property, apprehending violators and providing assistance to other law enforcement agencies and the general public.
** GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
**** All applicants:
*** Be a citizen of the United States.
* Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age but less than forty-six (46).
* Satisfy the education requirements outlined below.
* Register, pay a fee and successfully pass the Peace Officer Screening and Selection Exam (POSSE).
* Create a personal account on the Guardian Alliance website, completing all forms and uploading all required documents. Qualified candidates will receive an invitation to complete their profile in Guardian.
* Applicant must successfully pass the following:  + physical agility test  + polygraph examination  + background investigation  + board interviews  + psychological testing  + medical/physical examinations, including drug screening
* Upload a resume and supporting documentation into Workday demonstrating satisfaction of education requirements.
* Serve a 12-month probationary period.
** Lateral applicants:
*** Must be a current full-time Certified Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) with at least two (2) years of service
** OR
* * be out of law enforcement no more than one (1) year, with at least two (2) years of prior certified service as a LEO.
** Traditional applicants:
*** No prior law enforcement experience required.
** EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS** *(Pursuant to* *)
*** All applicants:
*** Prior to receiving a commission, all such appointees shall possess an associate’s degree or a minimum of sixty-two (62) successfully completed semester hours from an accredited college or university as denoted in the Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs provided by the U.S. Department of Education and whose hours are transferable between such recognized institutions.  Prior years of military or law enforcement service shall qualify as a substitute for the educational requirement, up to a maximum of thirty (30) semester hours, for any combination of the following:*
* * ten (10) semester hours for each year of honorable service in any active military or reserve military service,*
* * ten (10) semester hours for each year the appointee worked as a paid, full-time, CLEET-certified law enforcement officer of a law enforcement agency within the State of Oklahoma, or*
* * ten (10) semester hours for each year the appointee worked as a paid, full-time sworn law enforcement officer certified by a state peace officer standards and training agency as a peace officer in another state, or any officer who has been certified as a federal peace officer by a CLEET-recognized law enforcement agency.
