Haskell Offers Great Career Opportunities for Experienced Steel Fitters
Join Haskell Steel to enjoy a pay and benefits package that exceeds the industry standard and work with the latest in steel fabrication technology.
With its continuous certification by the American Institute of Steel Construction since 2009, Haskell Steel is a trusted source of materials for the designers, builders and owners of large projects requiring steel fabrication. Haskell consistently earns and rewards that trust, leveraging a professional team and the latest technology to produce more than 10,000 tons of components and structural steel each year for its customers.
“What we’re looking for are people who can walk in the door and, without a lot of training, know what to do and do it from day one.” said Steve Gibson, Haskell Director of Steel Fabrication.
Since it established its groundbreaking Permanent Craft Employee (PCE) program in the mid-1970s, Haskell has been known for providing skilled tradesmen with full-time employment, complete with a robust benefits package that includes healthcare, a 401k match and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
The same is true of its open steel‑fitter positions.
“Other folks in the area employed in the trade don’t have the same benefit package that our guys do,” Gibson said. “Some fabricators just have the folks on a casual‑labor arrangement, where they bring them in when they need them and send them home when they don’t. There aren’t a lot of benefits attached to those jobs.”
As it has grown from a small operation with five guys working in the corner of a warehouse, Haskell Steel has placed a premium on adapting to industry changes and evolving to meet the demands of an increasingly diverse customer base with increasingly complex needs. It now employs key advancements, such as 3D modeling to help deliver the most precise cuts, fabrications and detailing possible, feeding data and specifications into high‑tech machines like CNC drill lines and robotic copers.
But it’s still about the people, who at Haskell are known not as employees but as team members and who are respected and rewarded for their performance.
“I think a good analogy and maybe something people can relate to is a steel fitter is to steel as a skilled carpenter is to lumber,” Gibson said. “The same ability to read drawings, use layout tools and conform to tolerances and those sorts of things directly apply. It’s just a different product that you’re building.”
Successful candidates likely will have at least two years’ experience and must display familiarity with fabrication tools, the ability to read and interpret shop drawings and the ability to handle a physical workload. for a complete description of the job and to apply.
