Position Title: RN - Registered Nurse (Levels 1-3) - Surgical Oncology - Nights

Job DescriptionOU Health's Surgical Oncology unit has recently expanded to 36 beds, and 9 step-down beds, in our new state-of-the-art adult patient tower. This unit provides care to patients at various stages of their surgical journey (pre-surgery, post-surgery, or considering surgery) in the gynecology, urology, colorectal and surgery oncology (Hepatobiliary and Complex GI) specialties. Average patient stay ranges from 48-72 hours to one week.
RNs on this unit have strong support from Care Team Associates and Health Unit Coordinators.
- Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing professional practice standards.
- Assume responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients.
- Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
- Assist physician in examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
- Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observe physiological manifestations, and intervene when necessary.
- Administer medications as prescribed.
- Initiate, regulate and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
- Deliver patient care safely and competently.
- Resolve patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
- Inform patient and family of hospital procedures and share care plans during care and at discharge.
- Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
- Foster a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure.
- Develop a professional career plan with personal performance goals aligned to enterprise metrics.
- Foster an inclusive workforce where differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health’s goals.
- Delegate tasks to clinical support staff as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Experience: 0-3 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse.
- License/Certification/Registration: Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)). Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required.
- License/Certification/Registration: Current RN license (OK State Board or eNLC). BLS required. Specialty certifications preferred.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of patient care as a Registered Nurse required.
- License/Certification/Registration: Current RN license (OK State Board or eNLC). BLS required. Specialty certifications preferred.
- Knowledge of basic professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
- Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
- Skilled in computer applications designed to ensure quality and safety measures for patients.
- Ability to establish and maintain integrity and trust with patients by advocating in the patient’s best interest.
- Ability to engage and manage conflicts constructively.
- Ability to maintain compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Ability to foster an inclusive workplace where diversity is valued.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with candor, openness, integrity, and diplomacy.
