DutiesDuring their careers, special agents carry out assignments in investigations and protection, often at multiple duty stations across the U.S. and abroad.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing protection for various protectees.
- Conducting criminal investigations related to financial obligations of the United States.
- Planning and executing security designs for National Special Security Events.

Requirements- U.S. citizenship
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to carry and use a firearm, with proficiency maintained
- Age between 21 and 37 at application, with exceptions for prior federal law enforcement service or veterans' preference
- Top Secret Clearance, maintained throughout career
- Uncorrected visual acuity no worse than 20/100, corrected to 20/20 in each eye
- Hearing loss not exceeding 25 decibels in relevant ranges
- Pre-employment drug testing and ongoing random testing
- Completion of 13 weeks at FLETC and 18 weeks at James J. Rowley Training Center
- Willingness to accept assignments nationwide and overseas
- Registration with the Selective Service System or exemption
