Ready to make a splash this summer? As the Waterfront Lead Steward at Camp Classen, you’ll oversee all fun and safety at our beautiful waterfront. This role is perfect for those with lifeguard experience who are passionate about water safety and activities. You’ll lead in a cabin when needed, participate in camp life, and assist in other program areas.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, organize, and execute waterfront unit activities.
- Supervise lifeguards and enforce waterfront rules.
- Coordinate swim schedules with the Assistant Program Director.
- Organize and implement safety drills and emergency procedures.
- Ensure the waterfront is safe and free from hazards.
- Lead in a cabin overnight with campers, if required.
- Assist in camper check‑in/out and supervise campers.
- Maintain cabin cleanliness and oversee maintenance.
- Implement programs that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Communicate effectively with campers, staff, and parents.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Adhere to YMCA policies, including medical, disciplinary, child‑abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Encourage growth in spirit, mind, body, and positive character development.
- Perform other duties as assigned and have fun!

Essential Functions- Plans, organizes, and executes village unit activities.
- Assists with camper check‑in and check‑out.
- Assists in supervision of campers and oversees the success of the program.
- When required, stays in a cabin overnight with campers.
- Ensures that campers are taught skills and, when required, teaches activities.
- Encourages growth in spirit, mind, body and positive character development in all campers and staff.
- Ensures the safety, health and inclusion of all campers.
- Oversees the maintenance and cleanliness of cabins for campers and staff.
- Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Dedication to job, camp participants and the YMCA cause.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Effectively communicates the camp rules, procedures, and schedule to campers.
- Effectively communicates with parents in a professional manner when needed.
- Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children and other staff. Models relationship‑building skills in all interactions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Must be at least 18 years old and high‑school graduate or equivalent.
- At least two years of college/trade school or previous experience working with children, preferably in an overnight camp setting.
- Experience working with youth and supervising staff.
- Must complete online training prior to arrival.
- Certifications:
CPR, AED & First Aid. YMCA lifeguard or American Red Cross certified. - Strong desire to work with children outdoors.
