Environmental Technician

Under minimal supervision and oversight, the Environmental Technician contractor is responsible for the performance of environmental inspections, data management, and reporting requirements to comply with environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures and strategic environmental goals within their assigned region, plant and project scope. The Environmental Technician will provide environmental compliance field support during and after construction for a variety of construction project types.

• Performance of inspections, collection of data, and the development of reports to demonstrate compliance with applicable requirements at multiple client assets within the assigned region within regulatory time frames.
• In collaboration with environmental support staff, the Environmental Technician will advise and train construction field personnel on applicable environmental regulations and permit requirements.
• The Environmental Technician is also responsible for informing appropriate staff of issues identified during inspections or field observations that must be addressed through internal business processes.

The Environmental Technician should have a working knowledge of some of the following environmental programs:

• NPDES Construction Stormwater Permits
• State & Local Permits for Erosion & Sediment Control
• Above ground and underground storage tanks
• Transportation of hazardous materials
• Solid and hazardous waste management
• Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures
• Wastewater, storm water, groundwater, and drinking water sampling, reporting and control
• Oil and chemical spill response and management
• Air emissions monitoring, control and reporting
• Asbestos and PCB management
• Pollution prevention
• Environmental site assessments
• Emergency planning, and community right-to-know

Key competencies of this position are technical expertise, planning and organization ability, attention to detail, written and oral communication skills and initiative.

Perform the following under minimal supervision:

• Perform environmental inspections within the assigned region using client approved forms and methods within regulatory time frames. Communicate deviations appropriately.
• Collect data as needed to support environmental compliance reporting using client approved methods.
• Prepare and submit reports as assigned.
• Advise and quality assure field activities in support of the assigned region to ensure compliance with environmental laws and permits.
• Provide training instruction and assistance to others on the implementation of environmental permit and regulatory requirements.
• Promote and enforce (see something, say something, do something) safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the general public, and Company facilities.
• Provide support during environmental compliance reviews.
• Effectively communicate environmental compliance issues to appropriate internal parties.
• Maintain all environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.
• Since a considerable amount of time will be spent driving from one client asset to the other, safe driving techniques and practices are essential.

• Education:
  
  High School diploma or preferred associate or bachelor’s degree in an environmental, science, or related discipline. Previous military experience will be considered to meet the associate degree requirement.
• Experience:
  
  Minimum of three years of experience with an associate degree. At least one year of experience with a bachelor’s degree. Minimum of five years of experience with a high school diploma.
• Valid driver’s license
• Physical demand is considered light duty.
• Must have working knowledge of, and adequate demonstrated competence in some of the programs listed in the job summary above.
• Travel time is considered 25% within the assigned region. No overnight travel. Will be driving to 5 different plants within a 50-mile range.
