Job Summary
Under minimal supervision and oversight, the Environmental Technician is responsible for the performance of environmental inspections, data management, and reporting requirements to comply with environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures and strategic environmental goals within their assigned region, plant and project scope. The Environmental Technician will provide environmental compliance field support during and after construction for a variety of construction project types.
Responsibilities include performance of inspections, collection of data, and the development of reports to demonstrate compliance with applicable requirements at multiple client assets within the assigned region within regulatory time frames. In collaboration with environmental support staff, the Environmental Technician will advise and train construction field personnel on applicable environmental regulations and permit requirements. The Environmental Technician is also responsible for informing appropriate client staff of issues identified during inspections or field observations that must be addressed through internal business processes.
Technician should have a working knowledge of some of the following environmental programs
- NPDES Construction Stormwater Permits
- State & Local Permits for Erosion & Sediment Control
- Above ground and underground storage tanks
- Transportation of hazardous materials
- Solid and hazardous waste management
- Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures
- Wastewater, storm water, groundwater, and drinking water sampling, reporting and control
- Oil and chemical spill response and management
- Air emissions monitoring, control and reporting
- Asbestos and PCB management
- Pollution prevention
- Environmental site assessments
- Emergency planning, and community right-to-know
- Key competencies of this position are technical expertise, planning and organization ability, attention to detail, written and oral communication skills and initiative
- Education:
High School diploma or preferred associate or bachelor's degree in an environmental, science, or related discipline. Previous military experience will be considered to meet the associate degree requirement. - Experience:
Minimum of three years of experience with an associate degree. At least one year of experience with a bachelor's degree. Minimum of five years of experience with a high school diploma.
