District 8 - Transportation Specialist I, II

Location:

Osage, OK

Salary: $43,600.00 - Level I, $48,600.00 - Level II

Responsibilities
  • Perform sampling and testing of materials for use in highway construction and maintenance, plant inspections, and materials certifications
  • Survey grades and alignments of highways using survey equipment
  • Collect and document statistics regarding the state highway system
  • Conduct traffic studies to support transportation system improvements
  • Develop bid proposals and oversee bid letting processes for construction projects
  • Inspect and review contractor and consultant work, ensuring compliance with plans and contracts; prepare estimates for contractors
  • Plan and review transport systems including rail, public transportation, waterways, and highways; evaluate existing and future service levels
  • Handle real estate duties such as property appraisal, acquisition, and relocation assistance; prepare right‑of‑way plans and reports
  • Audit research programs, right‑of‑way plans, and construction documentation for effectiveness and accuracy
  • Supervise employees in transportation‑related areas
Education & Experience
  • Level I: No education or experience requirements
  • Level II: One year of transportation‑related work experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience (two college courses in mathematics, natural science, engineering or related field)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic geometry, algebra, and laboratory equipment knowledge
  • Understanding of construction materials and English language proficiency for written and oral instructions
  • Measurement, data collection, computer operation, and transportation equipment operation skills
Special Requirements
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and willingness to meet travel demands associated with the position
