About the role | Mō te tūranga:

Our Patient Services Department plays a vital role in delivering high-quality healthcare to our community. Our team is responsible for collecting blood samples and handling a range of clinical specimens including blood, urine, faeces, and tissue from patients across both community and hospital settings. These samples are then processed and analysed in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory, helping clinicians make informed decisions for patient care.

This is a permanent part-time role, working 16 hours per fortnight.

Key responsibilities include
  • Performing blood collection with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Safely handling and preparing clinical specimens for transport.
  • Operating Point of Care testing devices to deliver timely results for urgent clinical needs.
  • Providing excellent customer service and acting as a vital link between patients, healthcare professionals, and the laboratory.

The ideal candidate will hold a QMLT in Phlebotomy or a related qualification. For candidates not yet registered with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we offer full on-the-job training and will support you in working towards registration as a Qualified Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician or Qualified Phlebotomy Practitioner.

To be successful in this role you need to have:

  • Demonstrate previous experience in a customer-facing role and a positive, friendly approach.
  • Demonstrate cultural and social sensitivity and be sensitive to special needs.
  • Be able to accurately follow detailed instructions and procedures in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be highly motivated towards learning and development in order to develop technical competency in Phlebotomy and other specimen collection procedures.
  • Have adaptable IT skills.
  • A reliable transport and full Driver's license.
  • Eligible to work in New Zealand.
