Interim Controller – Healthcare Sector

Are you a seasoned healthcare finance professional with a passion for operational excellence and regulatory compliance? Our client, a prominent healthcare organization, seeks an experienced Interim Controller to lead their financial and revenue management functions during a transitional period. Overview:

As the Interim Controller specializing in healthcare operations, you will provide expert oversight of all financial activities related to healthcare monetary flows, including accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, financial reporting, billing, coding, collections, and revenue cycle analysis. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will also assume temporary oversight of the Revenue Director’s responsibilities to ensure uninterrupted financial performance and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Healthcare Financial Operations Leadership:
  • Manage and streamline financial functions specific to healthcare, including patient billing, coding accuracy, collections, and revenue cycle management.
  • Oversee accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting with a focus on healthcare-specific compliance and best practices.
  • Support and improve revenue cycle processes, including reimbursement strategies and contract negotiations, to maximize revenue efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial data collection, analysis, and reporting tailored to healthcare metrics and regulatory requirements.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:
  • Maintain strict adherence to healthcare regulations, including Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer guidelines, as well as federal, state, and local laws.
  • Collaborate with compliance, coding, and billing teams to uphold HIPAA privacy standards and protect sensitive patient and organizational data.
  • Lead preparation and coordination of regulatory audits and financial reviews, ensuring transparency and accuracy in all reporting.
Financial Strategy & Analysis:
  • Provide strategic financial insight to support operational decisions, cost containment, and reimbursement optimization.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within revenue cycle functions, including automation and efficiency enhancements.
  • Monitor financial performance metrics unique to healthcare, delivering detailed reports to senior leadership for informed decision-making.
Team & Stakeholder Management:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop finance and revenue teams, fostering a culture of compliance, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate across multiple departments including clinical, billing, coding, and executive leadership to align financial operations with organizational goals.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related field; CPA or Healthcare Finance Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive healthcare finance experience, with proven expertise in revenue cycle management, billing, coding, and compliance.
  • Deep familiarity with healthcare payer policies, reimbursement frameworks, and regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, CMS guidelines).
  • Proficiency with healthcare-specific financial systems and ERP platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret healthcare financial data and communicate insights clearly.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing healthcare finance teams and complex operational initiatives.
Physical Requirements:

This role involves typical office activities, including sitting, standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 35 lbs.
