Due to an internal promotion we are looking for a Dietitian to join our Acute Adult Dietetic ward team at Royal Blackburn Hospital.
We are looking for a forward thinking post holder who will be responsible for the Acute Medical Unit wards and supporting the Emergency Department with tube feeds and complex nutrition patients. This post is to support the flow of nutrition patients through the hospital. Regular ward nutrition teaching sessions will be required as well as "bitesize" training for the emergency department.
We are ideally looking for candidates who are passionate about service improvement and effectiveness of patient care.
Experience in complex enteral tube feeding is desirable but not essential as training can be given.
The post holder would also be expected to link into the project work led by the Consultant Dietitian for the Trust specifically around food and enteral feed provision for the hospital.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills whether you are a band 6 Dietitian looking to try a new specialty or an experienced band 5 Dietitian looking for promotion.
Main duties of the jobManaging a caseload of adult patients with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions
Advise on all aspects of dietetic management of Acute Adult patients with support from acute Dietetic team leads and peers.
Provide training and clinical supervision on the dietetic management for Rotation Dietitians, Dietetic assistant practitioners, and Dietetic students
Represent Dietetics at meetings regarding Acute adult services
About usThis post is based at our Royal Blackburn Hospital site. Clinical support and supervision will be available from the band 7 Specialist Dietitian as well as band 6 Specialist Dietitian peers in the team.
The Acute team is part of the wider Dietetic Department covering the hospitals and communities of East Lancashire. We are a department that covers from cradle to grave and includes inpatients and the community. The department has nearly 75 staff and covers many specialties and is known for its innovation, development and training
Job responsibilitiesThe post holder will cover the Acute Medical Unit wards. Ensuring patients with nutritional needs are seen in a timely manner and first line nutrition advice started to support the flow of nutrition patients through the hospital. Also supporting the AMU wards when more complex nutrition and tube fed patients are admitted.
In the current climate patients are spending longer in the emergency department. This post ensures those with complex nutrition needs and tube fed patients have nutrition care in the emergency department as required.
The post holder will work closely with all members of the MDT to provide expert dietetic care to our patients. The post holder would be expected to attend Consultant ward rounds and MDT meetings work closely with the Trust's Complex Nutrition Team.
The post holder would be expected to provide regular nutrition training sessions to the AMU wards and offer "bitesize" training to the emergency department.
The post holder would be expected to continue the work of service improvement on these wards to ensure patient care continues to be the most effective and supporting the flow of nutrition patients through the hospital to discharge.
The post holder would link in with the Consultant Dietitian to support improvements to food and enteral feed provision at our hospitals.
Person Specification Qualifications- HCPC current registration.
- Clinical supervisory skills
- Recent post graduate Dietetic experience in an Acute ward setting
- Clinical supervision of Dietitians, Dietetic support staff and students
- Demonstrable evidence of ongoing CPD
- Experience of working as part of an MDT
- Worked in the NHS as a Dietitian
- Experience of parenteral nutrition
- Experience of managing complex enteral feeding regimens
- Experience in Acute surgery
- Experience working as part of a MDT Nutritional Support team
- Organisational and time management skills
- IT skills (competent in the use of Microsoft office applications)
