Location: Madill
Welder 1 – Big Tex Trailers About the Opportunity
Under direct supervision, perform simple to complex welding applications, assembling metal components across all types of trailers including utility, cargo, gooseneck, flatbed, and dump trailers. Execute visual and in‑process inspections per quality specifications, read and interpret blueprints, troubleshoot welding issues, and support team objectives. Pass periodic welding tests and qualifications in compliance with company procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities- Perform work in a professional and safe manner, report unsafe work practices.
- Learn and understand layout, assembly, and welding procedures.
- Complete or understand reports such as scrap, safety, quality, work orders, inventory, cycle counts, or other documents presented by the supervision team.
- Bolts, clamps, and tack‑weld parts to secure them in position for welding.
- May assemble parts by bolting.
- Capable of constant bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting weight up to 50 pounds; recognize team lifting opportunities.
- Learn techniques related to repairing products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, cutting, and reassembling parts.
- Use or learn proper use of fabrication equipment such as plasma cutter, cutting torch, and other welding fabrication tools.
- Clean and quality‑check all welds, set‑up/run structural welds, run all welding equipment, and read drawings.
- Learn or help facilitate the team in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and solving welding problems while adhering to the company’s quality programs, policies, and safety/environmental regulations.
- May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Preferred:
Technical education or postsecondary coursework in vocational and technical institutes, community colleges, private welding, soldering, brazing schools, or welding training through the U.S. Armed Forces. - Strong understanding of how to interpret and use blueprints, welding specifications, and welding procedures.
- Ability to use and read welding measuring devices including squares, levels, and tape measures.
- Ability to take and follow written and oral instructions.
- Effective communication with supervision and other team members regarding job functions and current tasks.
- Capability to make repair welds using fabrication equipment such as cutting torches, hand grinders, surface grinders, and wheel grinders.
- Basic math skills for calculating material fabrication (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing).
- Capability to learn proper use of fabrication support equipment including turntables, cranes, hoists, lift tables, carts, and flip tables.
