Mortgage Field Services Inspector

FAR Inspections is looking for highly motivated individuals to perform residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders. Independent contractors earn predictable full‑time or supplemental income and enjoy a flexible schedule. Experience with mortgage field inspections is not required but an ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines is crucial. The company is based in Reno, NV and has been in business for over 9 years.

Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties and send independent contractors to verify property occupancy and report on general condition using a mobile application. Most inspections are exterior only; about 10% require interior photos after the property has gone vacant.

• Complete most inspections in 5‑6 minutes.
• Finish the inspection within 4 days after it is assigned.
• Report general property conditions and determine occupancy based on industry standards.
• Take 9+ photos with brief comments.
• Complete a short form in an application.
• Spend extended periods driving and making numerous stops during the day in the assigned territory.

• Computer with an internet connection.
• Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage is a plus).
• Smartphone (Android or iPhone).
• Printer.
• Pass a standard background check using a valid driver’s license.

This is a 1099 position. Each inspection has a flat rate that varies by county and volume. Though paid per inspection, the role can earn the equivalent of $30‑$40 per hour. Depending on the county—urban or rural—you may complete anywhere from 20 to 500 inspections per month, working 2‑30 hours per week. Lower‑volume counties have higher rates; higher‑volume counties have lower rates.

There is no set minimum; the work is consistent month to month, and you can earn more as you become established, have greater availability, or cover a larger territory.

No additional mileage reimbursement above the flat fee per inspection.
