As a Student Food Service Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting full-time staff members with the preparation, cooking, and serving of food for the Kellogg events, helping with preparing appetizers, entrees, starches, vegetables, and other items. You must also be knowledgeable of all relevant food safety regulations, standards, and guidelines to ensure the safe handling and serving of all meals to customers.
It is your job to make sure the guests of Culinary Services receive the most outstanding customer service.
- Cooking, preparing and serving food at the Kellogg Center
- Kitchen clean up after meals are served
- Communicate with supervisors, managers and other student team members
- Coordinate with supervisor’s job tasks that need to be completed each shift
- Other duties as assigned
- Work 6 am to 12 pm a few days a week
- Be enrolled as a student at Michigan State University (during academic year)
- Demonstrated commitment to outstanding customer service
- Must be able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision
- Must be positive and respectful, especially when working with a diverse population
- Be able to work nights, early mornings and/or weekends
- Serve Safe or other food safety certification
- Experience cooking or working in a high-volume food service operation.

Physical DemandsMust be able to move up to 10 pounds.
Work HoursMust be able to work varied shifts, including early mornings (start at 6:00AM), nights (until 10 PM), and weekends.
During the school year domestic student employees may not work more than 29 hours per work week, and international student employees may not work more than 20 hours per work week.
During school breaks, between semesters, and during summer semester, all student employees are permitted to work up to 40 hours per work week.
