Position: District 7 - Heavy Equipment Operator
Location: Medford

Heavy Equipment Operator

Department: Operations
Division: 7
Report to: Road Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Multiple
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as trucks, tractors, road graders, bulldozers, front-end loaders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi-trailers, snow removal equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
  • Repair failures in roadway shoulders or bridge decks.
  • Repair and replace signs, guardrails, fences.
  • Provide traffic control assistance using stop/slow signs or flags.
  • Apply herbicide to highway rights-of-way to control weeds.
  • Remove debris including tires, animal carcass, spilled items.
Qualifications
  • Level I:
    Knowledge of safe operation of heavy machinery; manual labor; ability to maintain and operate power equipment; follow instructions.
  • Level II:
    Knowledge of operation and servicing of heavy equipment; materials used in highway construction; proper highway traffic control. Ability to operate heavy equipment; use construction materials; follow instructions; communicate effectively. One year of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license (class A or B with appropriate endorsements). Commercial driver’s license required for certain positions.
  • Physical requirements:

    lift 80‑100 pounds, stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl. Vision: close, distance, peripheral, depth.
  • Drug test prior to appointment; background check and drug screening required.
