The Floating Teacher plays a vital role in providing flexible support across classrooms and age groups, ensuring a high standard of care and education wherever assigned. This position requires adaptability and the ability to step into various roles, maintaining consistency in routines and nurturing a positive, engaging environment for children. The Floating Teacher collaborates with classroom staff and the Center Director to meet the developmental needs of children and uphold the center’s standards of quality care.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Transition smoothly into classrooms across all age groups (infants, toddlers, preschool, and school-age), maintaining established routines and classroom expectations.
  • Assist in implementing age-appropriate activities and curriculum based on the needs of the children in the assigned classroom.
  • Provide hands‑on care, including feeding, diapering, assisting with toileting, and supporting self‑help skills as needed.
  • Actively engage with children during play, activities, and routines to foster their emotional, social, and cognitive development.
  • Ensure the safety and security of children by maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment and adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff to create a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Communicate effectively with classroom teachers to ensure smooth transitions and consistent care.
  • Observe and report any developmental milestones or concerns to classroom teachers and the Center Director.
  • Assist with preparing meals, snacks, and cleaning tasks as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings, required training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Adhere to all center policies, procedures, and state regulations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom environments and the needs of children at various developmental stages.
  • Strong communication skills for engaging with children, families, and staff.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a collaborative attitude to support the success of all classrooms.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and age‑appropriate practices.
Education & Experience
  • Experience working with children in a licensed childcare setting strongly preferred.
  • Certification in pediatric first aid and CPR.
  • Pass criminal background check.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to engage in active care, including frequently lifting children, kneeling, bending, and participating in floor‑based play.
  • Comfortable working in an environment with exposure to common childhood illnesses.
