PRN Speech Language Pathologist

Position Summary

The SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (SLP) evaluates for, plans, and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric with acquired or congenital impairments in cognition, communication, or swallowing functions, aiming to train or restore the highest possible level of functional independence. The SLP conducts video swallow evaluations in the Radiology Department with a Radiologist and necessary Radiology staff, collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, prepares written documentation, schedules patient treatments and meetings, supervises Rehabilitation Aides and Student Speech-Language Pathologists, assists with in‑service training and continuing education, and may participate in Performance Improvement activities.

PRN Speech Language Pathologist – Olathe Hospital

• Conduct Speech‑Language Pathology evaluations according to education, training, professional codes, and department policy. Interview patients and determine the nature and extent of impairments in speech, language, voice, fluency, cognition, and dysphagia. Make appropriate referrals, inform patients/families of results, and plan treatments based on assessment data.
• Establish and carry out treatment programs based on evaluation results and ongoing reassessments. Administer Speech‑Language Pathology treatment, recommend equipment, evaluate treatment effects, and adjust plans to achieve optimal benefits.
• Educate nursing personnel, patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff on Speech‑Language Pathology objectives. Enlist other professionals to observe speech and swallowing patterns and implement the SLP’s recommendations.
• Consult with physicians and healthcare practitioners to obtain additional patient information, revise treatment programs, and integrate Speech‑Language Pathology with overall patient care.
• Manage patient schedule to maximize efficiency, reduce cancellations, and meet patient needs.
• Prepare written documentation for evaluations and treatment sessions, maintain accurate records, and keep outpatient charts complete.
• Submit end‑user audit reports and volume reports, and accurately charge patients for services provided.
• Supervise Rehabilitation Aides, orienting and directing their activities within patient treatment programs and department operations.
• Perform professional, clinical, and technical competencies required for the unit or department.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Speech‑Pathology from an accredited SLP education program.

• Previous healthcare experience.

• Licensed Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) – State Department for Aging and Disability Services (KS), Department of Health & Senior Services (MO); includes licenses for all other states upon hire.
• CPR / AED / BLS certification; other BLS within 14 days.
