We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Counselor to join our team and ensure patients receive the financial guidance they need during their care experience.
Position SummaryThe Financial Counselor supports patients in understanding their financial responsibilities, establishing payment plans, and identifying or securing funding sources. This role follows KVC’s enterprise financial assistance policies and processes. The ideal candidate has exceptional attention to detail, strong communication skills suited for diverse audiences, and a solid understanding of medical billing practices.
Work Schedule:
This position is hybrid
. Once training is complete, the Financial Counselor will work on-site Tuesday through Thursday and remote on Monday and Friday

High school diploma or equivalent required
Associate degree or higher in healthcare administration or related field preferred
ExperienceMinimum 2 years of experience in medical billing or healthcare revenue cycle
Knowledge of medical billing terminology, payor reimbursement methodologies, and healthcare billing processes
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and elevate issues appropriately
Strong oral and written communication skills
Preferred Experience/SkillsExperience with charity care applications and financial assistance programs in a hospital setting
Understanding of government and state payors
Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and billing software (e.g., Well Sky, EPIC, Waystar)
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality
Exceptional customer service and patient interaction skills
Certification/LicensureAt least 21 years old
Valid Driver’s License
Valid Auto Insurance
Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesTask Expectations:
Conduct insurance verification for all admissions and communicate consistently with Utilization Review, Admissions, and internal partners
Provide clear explanations of insurance benefits, out-of-pocket costs, and payment obligations
Assist patients with financial assistance applications and assess eligibility for alternative funding sources
Conduct proactive outreach to patients with self-pay balances and provide cost estimates for scheduled services
Establish and monitor payment plans in alignment with organizational policies
Serve as a liaison between patients, insurance companies, and internal departments to resolve complex financial issues
Assist with customer service calls, answer billing questions, and process patient payments
Perform other duties as assigned
