Terracon has an exciting opportunity for someone who is interested in helping to lead the Construction Materials Service Line for our Eastern Operating Group. This will be done through collaboration, thought leadership, innovation, and most importantly, servant leadership. Our successful candidate will be one who listens well and has the ability to engage others in conversation. Someone who likes to “have a seat at the table” and has the ability to influence and help our Department Managers build and develop strong, successful teams that execute, accomplish goals, and drive change.

In support of the National Director of Materials Engineering and Construction Testing and Inspection Services. The primary role of the Assistant Service Line Director is to support the vision and provide guidance and leadership to promote safe, profitability and growth in our Materials Engineering and Construction Testing and Inspection Practice.

While this position is supporting our Eastern Operating Group, we are open to candidates from all geographical locations.

Acting as a strategic partner to the Operations Chief Operating Officer, Sr Vice Presidents, Director Regional Officers and materials leaders, the Assistant Service Line Director will focus on the following areas:

  • Materials Department Manager and Project Manager training and development
  • APR development and Quality Leadership
  • Recruitment of Materials leaders within operations
  • Materials Department Manager and Project Manager training and development
  • Technical Skills/Knowledge/Innovation and Technology
  • Safety Leadership and building our safety culture
  • Assist in strategic hiring and recruiting
  • Client Development/Management
  • Major Pursuit Partner
  • Change Management Leadership
  • Execution of the strategic and annual operations plans including assisting offices with achieving hiring goals
  • Assist Department Managers on how to increase financial performance

The mix of time spent in these key areas may vary substantially depending upon needs within the operations, various needs of the service line, and the individual’s background and expertise.

Technical Skills/Knowledge
  • Maintain general knowledge of a variety of technical areas of practice involved in delivering services within the service line
  • Provide technical direction and oversight of project scopes and performance for a variety of practice areas within the service line (i.e. need a broad knowledge base)
  • Provide senior-level consulting to both internal staff and external clients
  • Assist in maintaining the quality of technical work at our high standards across all offices performing work in the service line
  • Be responsive to the needs of staff from around the company when questions on technical, contract and client issues are raised
  • Participates in external organizations and strives to hold leadership roles
Essential Skills/Abilities

  • Comfortable presenting internally and externally (large and small audiences).
  • Overnight Travel is required for this position, travel estimated to be 50%.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practices by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology and 15 years’ related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 19 years’ related experience with at least 10 years of practical experience in Materials Engineering and Construction related services Or
