LEARN, the Regional Educational Service Center for southeastern Connecticut, invites candidates to apply for a full‑time Multicultural / Magnet Theme Coordinator opening at our Regional Multicultural Magnet School in New London, Connecticut.

General Scope Of Responsibilities

The Multicultural / Magnet Theme Coordinator acts as a consultant, coach, and curriculum coordinator to support the work of educators, enrich their professional development, and support all aspects of student assessment, program evaluation, and MSAP grant evaluation. This coordinator will lead the revision of curricular and instructional approaches to infuse a multicultural and project‑based approach to the holistic student experience at RMMS.

A primary responsibility will also include maintaining data and other documentation related to the school’s five‑year federal grant award.

Relationship within the Organization

The Multicultural / Magnet Theme Coordinator reports to and is evaluated by the Principal of the Regional Multicultural Magnet School.

Instructional Support and Coaching
  • Provide thematic coaching services to teachers in all grades.
  • Analyze student data with staff and develop instructional plans to address students’ developmental needs.
  • Assist teachers in documenting student work using a variety of modalities.
  • Support teachers in strengthening their ability to differentiate instruction.
  • Work directly with teachers in classrooms to implement highly effective, culturally relevant instructional practices.
Professional Development
  • Design and deliver project‑based learning (PBL) and multicultural professional development to all staff.
  • Develop professional development sessions to support teacher growth.
  • Participate in the McREL Leadership Program.
  • Attend and provide turnkey professional learning in partnership with PBL and multicultural partners.
Collaboration and Development
  • Complete all state and federal applications, paperwork, reports, and forms required by CSDE, USDOE, and other evaluators.
  • Engage with educators to develop thematic, project‑based, and multicultural curriculum.
  • Work with educators and administrators to achieve MSAP grant deliverables.
  • Identify, collaborate with, and create sustainable partnerships outside thematic partners—e.g., PBL Works and multicultural partners—to enhance programming and strengthen instruction.
Assessment and Reporting
  • Monitor and report on overall thematic and multicultural program goals and objectives.
  • Support school leaders in ensuring grant goals are met and share progress.
  • Create and disseminate grant reports.
  • Coordinate site visits in partnership with grant evaluators and school administration.
Recruitment and Marketing
  • Lead recruitment and marketing efforts aligned with the school’s magnet mission.
  • Coordinate school tours, open houses, and community outreach events.
  • Develop bilingual promotional materials highlighting PBL, multicultural, and dual‑language learning.
  • Manage social media and website updates to showcase student learning and partnerships.
  • Build relationships with community and higher‑education partners that support the magnet program.
  • Track enrollment trends and employ data‑driven recruitment strategies.
  • Engage families and students as ambassadors for the magnet program.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with school leadership in designing, implementing, and reviewing multicultural thematic programming.
  • Perform other tasks as appropriately assigned by the School Principal.
Education Experience, Knowledge, and Training
  • Current CT Educator certification.
Experience
  • At least five years of classroom or coaching experience.
Preferred Experience
  • Three to five years of middle school teaching or coaching experience.
Special Skills
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply adult learning theory when working with staff.
  • Deep knowledge, interest, and experience with the school’s magnet theme.
  • Experience in curriculum and assessment development, including program evaluation.
  • Experience working with culturally, socially, and economically diverse student and family populations.
  • Experience in developing and delivering theme‑based instruction.
  • Experience in developing and implementing desegregation strategies and activities.
  • Experience coaching or supporting teacher development and skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
