This is a hands-on field position focused specifically on generator service, maintenance, and repair.
Position Summary
The Generator Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of residential and light commercial standby generator systems.
This position works independently in the field and alongside electricians, plumbers, and other Generators on Demand team members as needed to keep customer systems running safely and reliably. Work includes scheduled preventive maintenance, load bank testing, electrical and fuel system diagnostics, transfer switch troubleshooting, and emergency response when a customer loses power.
The ideal candidate is mechanically and electrically inclined, comfortable reading wiring diagrams and service literature, experienced with generator diagnostics and repair, and willing to perform the physical work required to service equipment in the field.
Our goal is to diagnose correctly and repair completely the first time, so our customers' systems start when they need them to.
Key Responsibilities

- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and fuel system faults on generator systems.
- Troubleshoot control panels, controllers, transfer switches, and automatic transfer equipment.
- Perform load bank testing and verify generator performance under load.
- Test, adjust, and replace generator components, sensors, and accessories as required.
- Interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, and manufacturer technical literature accurately.
- Document parts used and recommend follow-up repairs based on field findings.
- Support generator startup and commissioning as required.
- Respond to emergency and after-hours service calls when customers lose power.
Job Preparation
- Review the service work order, customer history, and prior field notes before arriving at the job site.
- Understand the reported symptoms, equipment model, and service scope before arriving on site.
- Identify potential obstacles or additional service needs before work begins.
- Prepare the service vehicle with the tools, equipment, parts, and materials necessary to complete the scheduled service.
- Confirm required parts, supplies, and service equipment are available before leaving for the job site.
- Help identify jobs that may require additional time, parts, or manpower.
